Add 3 to 4 days if you wish to cover Goechala too. Our\u00a0 programs are mostly on an Airport to Airport basis, which would add 3 more days to your program. So the entire tour may vary between 10 to 15 days.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><b>Getting There<br \/><\/b>The nearest airport from Yuksom is Bagdogra (IXB) about 160 km and 6 hours drive away. The Gangtok airport at Pakyong is closer at 127 km but has limited flights operating there.\u00a0 We have our own vehicles to transfer you from the airport to Yuksom.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><b>The best time to trek<\/b><br \/>Kanchenjunga base camp trek can be undertaken any time of the year except for extreme winter and the rainy season. During the months of December to February, the area is too cold for trekking. The monsoon months of July to September leads to incessant rain and frequent landslide. It is more accessible than the <strong data-start=\"918\" data-end=\"937\">Green Lake Trek<\/strong>, yet still physically demanding and deeply immersive.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c4c9e42 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c4c9e42\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1041\">Kanchenjunga and the Himalayan Landscape<\/h2><p data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1394\"><strong data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1059\">Kanchenjunga<\/strong>, the third-highest mountain in the world, rises along the border of <strong data-start=\"1128\" data-end=\"1148\">Sikkim and Nepal<\/strong>. The massif includes peaks such as <strong data-start=\"1184\" data-end=\"1240\">Kabru, Kumbhakarna, Pandim, Simvo, Rathong, Kokthang<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1246\" data-end=\"1259\">Frey Peak<\/strong>. These mountains are visible from large parts of the <strong data-start=\"1313\" data-end=\"1343\">Darjeeling\u2013Sikkim Himalaya<\/strong> and are regarded locally as guardians of the land.<\/p><p data-start=\"1396\" data-end=\"1595\">A walk towards the Kanchenjunga base region has long been considered a meaningful journey rather than a simple trek. From the Indian side of Sikkim, there are <strong data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1594\">two recognised high-altitude routes<\/strong>:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1596\" data-end=\"1647\"><li data-start=\"1596\" data-end=\"1625\"><p data-start=\"1598\" data-end=\"1625\"><strong data-start=\"1598\" data-end=\"1625\">Dzongri \u2013 Goechala Trek<\/strong><\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1647\"><p data-start=\"1628\" data-end=\"1647\"><strong data-start=\"1628\" data-end=\"1647\">Green Lake Trek<\/strong><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1649\" data-end=\"2044\">Neither route reaches the actual base camp. The <strong data-start=\"1697\" data-end=\"1722\">Dzongri Goechala Trek<\/strong> leads to <strong data-start=\"1732\" data-end=\"1745\">Goecha La<\/strong>, a high mountain pass directly opposite the Kanchenjunga base area, while the <strong data-start=\"1824\" data-end=\"1843\">Green Lake Trek<\/strong> approaches the mountain from the remote northern side. Among the two, Dzongri Goechala is the more commonly walked and better suited for travellers seeking a structured yet challenging Himalayan walk.<\/p><h2 data-start=\"2051\" data-end=\"2109\">Kanchenjunga National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site)<\/h2><p data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2354\">The entire Dzongri Goechala route lies within <strong data-start=\"2157\" data-end=\"2187\">Kanchenjunga National Park<\/strong>, a protected area covering <strong data-start=\"2215\" data-end=\"2230\">2,035 sq km<\/strong>. The park was designated a <strong data-start=\"2258\" data-end=\"2296\">UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016<\/strong>, recognising both its ecological and cultural importance.<\/p><p data-start=\"2356\" data-end=\"2379\">The park connects with:<\/p><ul data-start=\"2380\" data-end=\"2503\"><li data-start=\"2380\" data-end=\"2444\"><p data-start=\"2382\" data-end=\"2444\"><strong data-start=\"2382\" data-end=\"2429\">Qomolangma National Nature Preserve (Tibet)<\/strong> to the north<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2445\" data-end=\"2503\"><p data-start=\"2447\" data-end=\"2503\"><strong data-start=\"2447\" data-end=\"2489\">Kanchenjunga Conservation Area (Nepal)<\/strong> to the west<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2505\" data-end=\"2642\">Walking here means moving through a carefully preserved environment where access is regulated and trekking remains relatively data-end=\"2754\">Dzongri Trek<\/h3><p data-start=\"2755\" data-end=\"2973\">A shorter option that takes you up to <strong data-start=\"2793\" data-end=\"2808\">Dzongri Top<\/strong> (approx. <strong data-start=\"2818\" data-end=\"2841\">4,200 m \/ 13,780 ft<\/strong>), offering wide views of Kanchenjunga and surrounding peaks. Ideal for walkers with limited time or those not wishing to go higher.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"2975\" data-end=\"3000\">Dzongri Goechala Trek<\/h3><p data-start=\"3001\" data-end=\"3231\">The extended route continues beyond Dzongri to <strong data-start=\"3048\" data-end=\"3061\">Goecha La<\/strong> (approx. <strong data-start=\"3071\" data-end=\"3094\">4,940 m \/ 16,207 ft<\/strong>). This option brings you significantly closer to the Kanchenjunga massif and requires stronger physical preparation and acclimatisation.<\/p><h2 data-start=\"3238\" data-end=\"3268\">Trek Starting Point: Yuksom<\/h2><p data-start=\"3270\" data-end=\"3460\">The trek begins at <strong data-start=\"3289\" data-end=\"3299\">Yuksom<\/strong>, the first capital of Sikkim, established in <strong data-start=\"3345\" data-end=\"3356\">1642 AD<\/strong>.
