Best Time
June to September the trek is not recommended due to heavy rain, the forest also remains closed during this time. Apart from this season, the rest of the year is perfectly suitable for this trek, the best weather and best visibility are available between October to December. January may be a bit cold and snowfall around Tiger Hill is very common in January.
The Tiger Hill trek
Tiger Hill is the highest point in Darjeeling hills at an altitude of approx 8400 feet (or 2590 meters). It is 11 kilometres from Darjeeling town and is situated at Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary. From Tiger Hill, one can experience the best panoramic view of Kanchenjunga, Mount Everest and other snow-clad mountains which is sure to leave you spellbound.
The tiger hill is popular among leisure tourists as a sunrise point. The early morning visit to Tiger Hill and watching the sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjunga from here is a popular tourist activity. However, Tiger Hill is accessible throughout the day and is an excellent place for a hike during the day.

You can undertake the Tiger Hill trek in one of the following two ways.
Round Trek – Darjeeling to Tiger Hill and back to Darjeeling, a round trek of approx. 18 kilometres. It takes about 6 hours to complete the trek from Darjeeling
One-Way Trek – Drive to Tiger Hill early morning to experience the beautiful sunrise over the Kanchenjunga range. On your way back trek to Darjeeling, a one-way trek of about 9 kilometres.

Trek to Tiger Hill from Darjeeling – a loop hike from Gandhi road to Gloom, then up through Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary to the top of Tiger Hill, a 9-kilometre hike in 2.5 hours. During this trek, one can see Darjeeling town, Ghoom station, Jorebanglow Degree College etc. Reach the Observatory Tower on the top of Tiger Hill. Enjoy an almost 360-degree view of the Eastern Himalayan range including Kanchenjunga, Mount Everest and many other dazzling snow-covered peaks.
After some rest, start your return trek towards Darjeeling mostly on the same road. It is a downhill trek of about 10 kilometres through Ghoom railway station, Monasteries and some local Darjeeling villages. One way you may visit the 150-year-old famous Buddhist monastery called YigaChoeling Monastery which is the prime attraction of this place. After visiting the monastery back to Ghoom railway station, the highest railway station in India. From here take a local village road to Darjeeling via Alubari village. Visit another monastery in Alubari named Alubari monastery, the official name of the monastery is Yolmowa Mak Dhog Monastery which was built in the year 1914. Later you continue your hike to Darjeeling and you finish your hike at Chourasta which is the central place of the Mall Road.
