Day 1: Arrival and Journey to Tumling

Your journey begins as you are picked up from NJP Rail Station / Bagdogra Airport. Enjoy the scenic drive through rolling hills and lush greenery. Lunch en route at a local restaurant offering authentic cuisine is the perfect opportunity to savour local flavours and relax.

Arrive at Tumling, a small mountain village known for its panoramic views. Check into your homestay, refresh, and prepare for an enchanting evening. 

Head out to capture the mesmerizing sunset. The sun sets illuminating the skies in shades of orange and purple. Keep your cameras ready to capture the spellbinding Speeling Buddha silhouette.

Dinner is served early. Take a well-deserved rest after a long day of travel.

Day 2: Red Panda Quest Begins

Rise early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over Kanchenjunga. The first rays of the sun gently light up the peaks, creating a magical sight.

After a warm cup of tea, set off with your cameras and binoculars towards the Forest. The dense woods are home to a variety of bird species, and you’ll start the day with some birdwatching on your way to the forest.

Your first session of exploring begins in search of the elusive Red Panda. Trek through the lush forests with experienced local guides who will share their knowledge of the local flora and fauna.

Return to your homestay for a hearty lunch, where you can discuss your morning experience and recharge for the next adventure.

Embark on another trek to discover more wildlife and track the Red Panda. Keep an eye out for rare Himalayan birds, martens, and the flora native to the region. The trackers will use their expertise to locate Red Panda habitats.

Return to Tumling, where you can enjoy a peaceful evening. Dinner at your homestay. Post-dinner, venture to nearby Tonglu for a special astrophotography session. With minimal artificial lights in the area, Tonglu offers an excellent opportunity to capture the Milky Way and the starlit sky.

Day 3: Deeper Into the Forest

Wake up and get ready for another mesmerizing sunrise. If you’re an early bird, this is the best time to soak in the beauty of the mountains. 

Today, head towards different sections of the Forest. This day is dedicated to exploring deeper into the forest for Red Panda sightings. The local guides will lead you to locations that have proven to be successful in past tracking efforts.

Another morning session of birdwatching and tracking the Red Panda. Be ready to explore lesser-trodden trails and dense foliage in search of these charming creatures.

Lunch break at the homestay. Take a moment to rest and refresh.

Continue tracking the Red Panda. The Red Panda is a shy and elusive creature, but your experienced guides will improve your chances of spotting them. Keep your camera ready for that special moment.

Return to Tumling, relax by the bonfire, and share stories of the day with fellow travellers. Have an early dinner followed by an optional nature walk under the moonlight.

Day 4: Final Day of Red Panda Exploration

Another early wake-up to catch the sunrise. Each morning brings a unique blend of hues over the Kanchenjunga peaks.

Set off to a new section of the forest to maximize your chances of a successful Red Panda sighting. The dense canopies and undisturbed landscapes offer perfect hiding places for these adorable creatures.

Birdwatching and Red Panda exploration continue. You might also come across other unique Himalayan wildlife like the Himalayan Serow or the barking deer. 

Lunch break at the homestay.

A final afternoon dedicated to capturing any last glimpses of the Red Panda or other wildlife. As the day progresses, the forest changes character and this is your last chance to catch some memorable sightings.

Head back to Tumling, where you can unwind and enjoy your last evening in the serene mountain village. Dinner and an optional evening stroll under the stars.

Day 5: Departure and Journey Back

Rise early and pack your belongings. Before departing, enjoy a final birdwatching session near Tumling. This is the perfect time to appreciate the birds and other small wildlife you may have missed.

Breakfast and farewell to the locals at the homestay.

Begin your journey back to NJP Rail Station / Bagdogra Airport. Cherish the memories of your close encounters with the elusive Red Panda, Himalayan birds, and the pristine nature of the region.

Arrive at your drop-off location. Your Red Panda tour comes to an end, leaving you with a bag full of happiness, photographs, and unforgettable moments.

A moderate level of physical fitness is essential, as the tour involves trekking through dense forests and uneven terrains for extended periods. Participants are advised to carry warm clothing, as temperatures in Tumling can drop significantly, especially during early mornings and nights. Good-quality trekking shoes, a sturdy backpack, binoculars, and a camera are recommended to enhance the experience. Since the tour focuses on wildlife spotting and photography, patience and a quiet demeanour are crucial to minimizing disturbance to the wildlife. It’s also advisable to carry basic personal medical supplies and be open to the rustic charm of staying in mountain homestays.
